Room 6 Dives Into Point Erin

Wednesday the 14th of March wasn’t showing the best of Auckland’s weather. Although room 6 students and their teacher Kelly Chambers walked down to Point Erin pools. Every child who was swimming was freezing their butts off but eventually got over it!! Students were swimming and diving and even pupils who weren’t swimming were sitting down enjoying a good book or talking with friends. After an awesome swim room 6 students hopped out of the pool and got changed. All the children and teachers travelled back to school remembering that radical trip!!

Soggy School Sports

On Wednesday 30 March room 6 and 15 of Ponsonby intermediate school had school sports, they first went to play crab soccer in the tech dome. They came out with a draw one goal each. It started to rain for a while but stopped after about 20 minutes, so room 6 and 15 voted to play flags. It was a tough game with Totara and Kauri against Puriri and Rimu. It was a close game but Rimu and Puriri came out with a one goal surprise and won the game. 10 minutes later the rain started to pour so they all went to the library to watch Lord Of The Rings

Finding our inner Maori

This week was the long awaited visit to Oraki Marae. We crowded round, girls first, then the guys. We were a bit disappointed when we didn’t get a proper powhiri because our school had already been there. We learnt heaps about wharenui and how it’s made to be a body with a head, spine, arms, and ribs.

Room 6 See the Animals Up Close

On Wednesday 7th of March 2007 Room 6 went to the Zoo, located in Western Springs Auckland, for E.O.T.C . Room 6 went to the Zoo because they wanted to learn about Animals and the Zoo’s past. We had a talk from one the Zoo educators and then we were allowed to explore the Zoo.
The Highlight of the day was the Giraffe Feeding. We got to feed the Giraffe with celery. It was a great experience visiting the Zoo and we would like to go again.

Rm 6 Goes Wild!

Were going to the zoo, zoo, zoo ……..

Rm 6 Headed of to the zoo for a day of excitement, unaware of the constant wonders hat lay ahead.

It all started with an educational visit to the Education Room. Soon they came out all more aware of he dangers an animal faces. Everyone had a quick lunch sheltered from the heavy downpour then in pairs they scurried of to see the animals.

People were running in every direction visiting the different animals, from the Alligators to the Zebras. We were all surprised that the giraffes were so tall, the tigers were so photogenic and the monkeys were so evolved that they carried cellphones.

Many photos were taken and we were all left with an experience we will cherish for life.

Splashing out at PT Erin pools!

On Wednesday the 28th of February rooms 6 and 15 headed off to Pt Erin pools for their third education outside the classroom (E.O.T.C) trip. They met before morning tea and got organised for the trip ahead.
After a few minutes they walked across the field, up Sheehan Street, across
Jervois Road and down Curran Street and arrived at Pt Erin pools.
After discussing rules and safety we tested everybody’s swimming ability to make sure they were capable to swim.
Then after a race of running in the water and a lap of freestyle we were all allowed to have free time.
Most of us headed strait to the diving boards to join the long cue.
Soon after the room 6 relay team decided that they would have one last practice before the swimming sports the following day. They raced room 15’s relay team and won by a mile, they were happy with their performance and are ready for the race tomorrow. Next it was time to get out of the pool and get changed. After that we lined up outside the shop and counted everyone off. Then we left up the hill and back too school. Over all we decided that we had had a great time at the pt Erin pools.

Hit the Road!

On Wednesday the 21 of February rooms 6 and 15 went on a walk to Explore Ponsonby for EOTC. We refilled our water bottles, checked that we had all our gear and then set off. We went to Victoria Park with some disobedient children rolling apples down the hill on the way. It was an easy stroll down the hill to the skate park. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to stop for very long so we couldn’t have any time to play on the skate park or run around. It was a great experience as some of the students live on the other side of the Harbour Bridge. There were lot of mixed emotions about the trip with some of us having a great time and others grumbling and moaning about sore legs the whole way. Then we went under the Harbour Bridge and had some lunch and a drink. We moved down to Pt. Erin and had a very competitive game of flags, with room 6 as the winner. We packed up all our gear again and set off to go back to school.

Room 6 learns new sport

On Wednesday February 14th room 6 left school at 11:00am to go and learn a new sport called lawn bowling.
We walked up to the Ponsonby bowling club which is on Jervois road.
Once we arrived we all sat down facing two men, one named Evan Ford who is the president of the bowling club and the other man was the coach.
Once they had finished teaching us, we all got into groups of four.
At first we started off with a small white ball called the jack. Everyone looked like they were having fun except for some students who were tired from the sun.
After about half an hour the coach and Evan brought out about 7-8 boxes filled with 4 big black balls weighing about 3kgs. Now this time we had to use the big black balls to try and hit the jack. I know that a lot of students were having trouble hitting the jack but a few people were having their lucky day hitting the jack. By the end of the day I’m sure that all of us had a great time learning a new sport.
